ABOUT ARA HERITAGE BUSES

A R A Heritage Buses is an incorporated society, set up with a plan to recognize our great city's transport heritage.

Auckland Regional Authority (ARA) previously known as Auckland Transport Board (ATB) was formed in October 1964, later to become the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) in 1989. The ARA ran bus services through a large part of Auckland, operating as the Auckland Regional Authority Passenger Transport Division.

Our focus is to have our former ARA buses professionally restored to once again be visible for the greater public to enjoy. The humble bus invokes fond memories of the past, no matter what some may think they brought us together through leisure, school or work many of us traveled by bus. We aim to create a permanent static display of our buses somewhere in Auckland, yet to be determined.

The Paul Gourley Collection

Our society historian, Paul Gourley, has been snapping photos of the bus scene throughout his life. This is a curated collection of Paul's photos showing off the day to day movements in the ARA days, photos from behind the depot fence and the many items that have become a part of the Paul Gourley collection from that time. Please feel free to look at the photos below.
